Inverse Kinematics
A classical method for motion control in legged robots. Given a target position for a leg's end effector, the algorithm works backward to calculate the required angles for each joint. It is characterized by well-defined mathematical relationships and predictable computation.

Timeline (last 90 days)
The control layer is still dominated by classical methods such as PID loops, model predictive control (MPC), and inverse kinematics, and AI work sits on top of this layer rather than being embedded within it.
Mainstream hand reconstruction methods fall roughly into two categories: one is based on parametric hand models (such as MANO), compressing high-dimensional hand morphology into a small number of pose and shape parameters and then regressing them; the other directly predicts joint keypoints from images and then fits a complete pose through inverse kinematics or optimization.
In the current version, the gait is computed individually for each leg by an inverse kinematics (IK) solver.
The inverse kinematics approach has clear mathematical relationships, predictable computation, and is easy to debug, but gait trajectories must be designed manually and its adaptability to uneven terrain is relatively weak.
The inverse kinematics of a six-degree-of-freedom robotic arm typically has multiple solution sets, with up to 16 solutions.
Forward kinematics (FK) involves finding the spatial position of the end-effector given the angles of all joints, while inverse kinematics (IK) involves back-calculating the angles of all joints given the target XYZ coordinates.
For relatively simple robotic arm structures such as 4DOF, an analytical solution is usually the preferred approach for solving inverse kinematics.
